Sunflowers' Nectar

Contours of Sound
Charcoal and Oil on Canvas 2025 100 x 100 cm

About This Work

A playful and experimental take on the concept of time, specially in a hot summer day. The burst of colors on the sunflowers are a representation of the energy of the summer. The bees are frozen in mid-flight, capturing the buzzing energy of the moment, it almost like a snapshot of a moment in time.

Technique & Process

The canvas begins its journey with cloth and oil, mixed with turpentine, creating a fluid foundation that captures the essence of summer. Charcoal then moves across the surface, sketching the movement of the sunflowers in the wind, under the radiant sun. The colors are primary, strong and vibrant, the flaring of the sunflower petals almost look like they are expressing themselves.

Inspiration & Context

Inspired by the feeling of being in the hot summer day, under the radiant sun. Sunflowers are a symbol of the summer, the energy of the summer, the joy of the summer. Bees add the sound to the painting, their buzzing creating an almost audible texture that complements the visual chaos of the sunflowers dancing in the summer breeze.
