Dan Khoa / Berlin, Germany

Dan Khoa is a Vietnamese artist based in Berlin. Working primarily in oil, his practice moves from Impressionist approaches to landscape towards more abstract treatments of flowers and the figure. His early studies in Vietnam included still life and landscape painting in gouache and charcoal.

His landscapes draw on places he has visited, including Naxos in Greece and Marseille in France. Berlin’s streets and parks are recurring subjects, with figures often appearing within these settings.

In his recent series, Contours of Sound, charcoal lines and passages of oil colour develop in response to the rhythm of electronic music. The series includes a collaboration with DJ Mindaniel, whose tracks informed the pace and movement of the paintings.
